Here in the studio, I love it when we have our guests in the studio.

We have a United States Senator and a soon to be former congressman named Craig Gowdy.

I can't believe you're here just because you know, usually watching Tonyans are too busy to get

to they just dial stuff in, but you guys have a book to promote.

This is the book. Anybody on a camera, we know I just want to make it really clear that you guys have a book to promote.

It's called Unified, how our unlikely friendship gives us hope for a divided country.

So the first question is, why is your friendship unlikely?

Well, I'll take a crack at that. I think it's unlikely that we would both be in the US House of Representatives.

If you consider the fact he ran against two sons of South Carolina, he ran against strong thermon, son, he ran against Carol Campbell's son, and don't merge in that primary.

I ran against an incumbent, which is not a smart wise thing to do in a Republican primary.

So the fact that we were together in 2010 is unlikely.

And I think our state has a rich but provocative history when it comes to race.

When we were born, we couldn't attend school together. We couldn't eat at the same restaurants. We couldn't use the same water fountains.

You guys that old, you're not that old.
