Now, miscarriage of justice is almost an overused trope in feature films, but what director

Tim Disney has done with his new film, American Violus, give it a real intimate and personal

feeling.

First of all, Tim, thanks so much for being here.

Thanks for having me.

And tell us what the movie's about a little bit.

I mean, it's a fantastic story.

I mean, we hear about these

kind of miscarriages of justice done in national court. I think we kind of lost sight of

that kind of thing still happens here in America. Yes, it does. It's the story of a young woman

named Regina Kelly. The character's name in the movie is Dee Roberts, who is accused of a crime

she didn't commit. She swept up in a drug raid, which routinely happens in her rural Texas town.

And she's threatened with 25 years in prison if she doesn't accept a plea bargain.

Now, she's a single mother of four children at the age of 23.

And her mother and everyone else who loves her begs her to take the plea because the cost of losing is so profound.

And just on principle, she says, I didn't do it.

I'm not going to say I did.

And she decides to fight back against this injustice and does so with the help of the ACLU and some other people.
