Leading off today, Apple's CEO Tim Cook is officially stepping down and John Ternis is taking over.

This CEO transition has been quietly underway for some time now, but it officially begins this week. Apple says that Tim Cook will step down

as CEO effective September 1st, 26, at which point John Turnus will officially take over. Cook will continue in his role as

CEO through the summer and work closely with Turnus on a smooth transition. Cook is also becoming

executive chairman of Apple's board of directors. Apple says that in this role, Cook will assist with

certain aspects of the company, including engaging with policy makers around the world.

Diplomacy has been a specialty of Cook's over the last decade, working closely with administrations in the United States, China, India, and elsewhere.

In a statement, Cook said, quote, it's been the greatest pleasure of my life

to be the CEO of Apple and to have been trusted to lead such an extraordinary company.

John Turnus has the mind of an engineer, the soul of an innovator, and the heart to lead with

integrity and honor. He is a visionary whose contributions to Apple over 25 years are already too numerous to count,

and he is without a question the right person to lead Apple into the future.
