The Importance of Confession on this edition of Truth and Love.

0:11.0

I'm Dale Johnson, and you're listening to Truth in Love, a podcast of the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors,

0:17.1

where we seek to provide biblical solutions for the problems that people face.

0:22.0

Today on Truth and Love, I want us to go into a direction that is maybe a little uncomfortable,

0:29.2

unfortunately so for we who believe. But I want us to go into a direction where we talk about

0:35.0

repentance and confession. Now, in biblical counseling, this is a big

0:39.2

deal. We talk about repentance. We talk about confession quite a bit. We often talk about the

0:44.8

importance of repentance. We talk about the councilee and helping them to understand how and where

0:52.1

to repent about issues as the Lord reveals issues in their life.

0:57.1

Today, what I want to do is certainly not minimize that, but I want to highlight why repentance

1:02.4

and confession are so critical when it comes to healing in the soul.

1:08.8

And in moments like this, what I want to focus on is not so much the

1:14.5

counsellee. I want us to start focusing on we who are in ministry, we who are often doing the

1:20.9

counseling. In this era of pandemic, it's interesting to me what the Lord is doing in many of us. And what we are accustomed to

1:30.8

doing, especially as the counselor or the one who is in ministry, is we're accustomed to teaching

1:36.7

about repentance. We're accustomed to talking about repentance. We're accustomed to helping people

1:43.6

repent and turn from their own sin and to confess

1:48.4

those sins. But maybe it's not something that we practice in particular, or maybe it's not

1:53.7

something that we do regularly. I think it's important during this season as the Lord continues to reveal issues in our own life,

2:04.4

right? We're at home much more and we see ourselves as this drags on. Maybe we're not speaking

2:11.8

as kindly as we normally do. Maybe it is that we find ourselves in our normal busyness of life. We're sort of passing in the night.

2:19.0

But now, man, we're actually having to have real conversation, slow down and engage with one another at a deeper level.
