Zoom was getting some traction, and Steve Jobs goes to Macworld, and he pulls out this iPhone.

Before we get into our conversation with Victor from the typical Mac user podcast, I want to report on a visit I made to the AT&T store here in Kansas City.

First off, I asked what information do you need to bring with you when you are ready to get the iPhone?

And if you already have a phone, like most people do, you're going to need the name on the account, the account number, your billing address, and your wireless number.

Ideally, you should have a copy of your most recent bill for the cell phone.

You may also want to check ahead with your current provider if there's a cancellation fee and what it's going to be,

so you have that worked out

and you're not shocked later on when you find out. I did ask her, and this was to Len's comment on

the last show, I did ask her, does it make sense for me now to sign up and get a free phone

and then just upgrade when the iPhone comes out? And she, the lady I talked with, actually said, no, that's probably not the best way to go

because there's no telling if there's going to be some fees or additional costs that will add on top of that.

I asked her about the, quote, secret sign-up lists that I've been reading about on different blogs,

and she said, that store doesn't

have a secret list. The best she could do was take my name and number and she could give me a call

as soon as the phones were available. If you haven't heard the story, there was a survey published

by the channel checkers that claim 64% of the 36 stores that they sampled admitted to having customer waiting lists for
