Kelley says, “I was just astounded. What guy is educated enough about skincare to understand what these products are? There's nobody that I know in America that is in my sphere of friends or business people that would understand any of this, and I sure didn't. But big cosmetic companies really thought that they could market skincare to men how they market for women. And it just didn’t work out very well. That’s why Tiege has been so successful. Our tagline is Uncomplicated Skincare for men.”

Today, we interview Kelley Thornton, Founder & CEO of Tiege Hanley, Inc. Tiege Hanley is an uncomplicated skin care company for men, with the sole mission of taking out the guesswork by giving you every product you need and nothing you don’t. The products are not only high quality but are affordable as well.

As an entrepreneur, I think most everybody out there listening who tried to build something

0:05.0

or inspired to build something know that it's a very difficult path. And it's been plenty of

0:09.8

ups and downs. I remember my second company purchase point, second company I founded, which

0:15.0

was a global design company, I got to the point where I was really, it was just out of cash.

0:19.5

I had a very clear path to get back

0:23.2

into the black, but I was really out of cash. And as an entrepreneur, it doesn't mean just the

0:27.8

business is out of cash. Me personally, my mortgage payments, my children's school payments

0:33.6

completely broke. And I actually went to one of my advisors and I said to him, I'm out of

0:40.2

cash. I've got a very clear path to get back into into the black. But I was wondering if you could

0:46.5

lend me some money. And it's very difficult. If anybody's ever asked anybody else to borrow money,

0:52.0

it's a very humbling and nerve-wracking experience. And I personally,

0:56.7

my DNA, I'm not comfortable at all doing that. It was a sizable amount of money north of $100,000.

1:03.3

And within two days, a friend of mine who was a business advisor, wrote a check, roughly $150,000.

1:10.0

And I was unbelievably grateful that he had the trust in me,

1:14.6

that I would pay the money back. And he believed in what I was doing. Unfortunately, the path that

1:20.0

I chose to get out out of debt was to sell my house. So it was a pretty tough move all around.

1:25.5

It wasn't just about borrowing the money, but having to sell the house and move my family.

1:31.3

It ended up being the very right thing, but forever grateful to that gentleman for his kindness and his trust in me.

1:38.4

And I think all entrepreneurs have been through really hard times.

1:41.7

And that just goes to show you there's people out there that are willing to help. This is the story of a brand, a podcast that helps people learn the story behind

2:00.6

their favorite consumer products. I'm Ramon Vela, a podcast that helps people learn the story behind their favorite consumer products.

2:02.6

I'm Ramon Vela, and I believe that people want to know more about the brands and products they purchase.
