This week we delve into a topic that's common in states like California, Texas, and New

York City, but the issue is headed towards every city in America.

First, let me set this stage.

One of my earliest jobs was way back in the late 80s at a chicken fast food joint.

You could believe that.

They started me on clean-up duty, but it wasn't long until they threw me on the grill heating

up tortillas.

The job was grueling.

I had to stand up for hours during rush hour, heating up hundreds of corn and flour tortillas.

And I'd worked another restaurant job before as a bus boy, so I wasn't a complete imbecile

when it came to this standard, like working protocol, like breaks and things like that.

I knew per California law that every four hours I got a 10 minute break.

And I quickly realized on this job that I was going to be needing it, right?

I mean, it was hot.

Chicken juice was flying everywhere, and my fingertips were swelled from flipping the

tortillas.

So when the time came, I popped into a booth and took a load off my feet.

But after just a few seconds, the manager rushed over to me and asked, what are you doing?

Just taking my 10 minutes, I responded in a matter of fact-tone.
