There's a huge chauvinism against the horror genre

in every level of the film industry.

They love the money that horror films earn,

but they don't respect the films and the filmmakers themselves.

Let me say right up front that I'm proud to be a part of our world

in the dark arts, and that I've carried its torch since I was a child.

I think some of the best, most groundbreaking work in the world of cinema

has been in the world of horror.

Boundaries have been stretched, taboos broken,

new technologies created in our dark little corner of the movie world.

But though the studios believe that the genre is for teenagers

and that's who they make them for and sell them to,
