Hey friends, welcome back. I am back myself here in the studio in Fredericksburg,

a little bit cold outside and icy, but we are all safe and looking forward to emerging

from this storm. We're in Galatians 3, as you well know, and we're right at the middle of the chapter,

actually, verse 15.

I promised you last episode that we would talk about, you know, what is the purpose of the law?

You know, why do we have primarily the law and the Old Testament?

And then it seems grace in the New Testament.

Now, that is a misstatement, because that's not true.

Salvation has always been by God's grace, and it's always been apprehended through faith.

And yet there is a purpose for the law that the Judaizers were misunderstanding.

They were assuming wrongly that the law was a means to salvation. Now, they weren't saying it was

only the law. They were saying it's faith in Christ plus Torah observance, including circumcision equals salvation.

So in that sense, what they were saying is that the law has a salvific benefit, that it

benefits a person for salvation, and that's not true. And the point that the Apostle Paul is making here is long before

the law ever showed up, God made this unconditional promise to Abraham, that through him,
