wildfires in California and the hurricanes in the southeast, homeowners insurance is likely to

rise. And you're thinking, well, I don't live in those states, so I'm fine. Yeah, not how it works.

Insurance companies are heavily regulated, but it's done state by state,

not federally. And regulators in many states are now allowing insurance companies to raise their

rates everywhere in order to cover the costs of these catastrophic events. Different states do allow rates to rise at different amounts, but just a heads up.
