today's top stories. It's Thursday, August 22nd. The city of Seattle and the

school district have launched a new safety and security initiative. This comes after a deadly

shooting outside Garfield High School in June that prompted calls for everything from closed campuses

to armed officers. Sammy West tells us which measures

the district is taking up.

One of the most controversial suggestions recently was to bring back more police to schools.

That's not part of this plan, but 11 schools with greater safety concerns will have more

police stationed outside during key times, like lunch or after

school. Plus, new staff working as violence interruptors will be stationed inside some schools.
