Good evening from the KUOW Newsroom. This is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning. Coming up on the show,

some baby news. Seattle's oldest hospital-based midwife group will stop delivering

babies in 2025. But before we get to that, here are today's top stories. It's Thursday, August 8th.

At least one race remains too close to call in this week's primary election, Commissioner of Public

Lands. Still in first is Republican

former U.S. Congresswoman Jamie Herrera Butler, who looks like she'll advance past this to the

November general election. But who's going to get the second spot? It's still tight tonight

between Republican Sue Peterson and Democrat Dave Up the Grove. We'll check

in again tomorrow. Meanwhile, current Democratic Lands Commissioner Hillary Franz has conceded

her run for Congress. In that race for the 6th District, Democrat Emily Randall and Republican

Drew McEwen have secured the top two spots.

Overall, Democratic candidates in Washington fared well in this week's primary election.

Jeannie Lindsay's been getting reaction from party leaders.

Voters were split in several statewide races,

but the overall number of people voting for Democrats is promising for the party heading into November.
