Starting with the national news dominating headlines today,

Washington Attorney General Nick Brown says after attending oral arguments at the U.S. Supreme Court today,

he's feeling encouraged about

state efforts to maintain birthright citizenship. Brown says several of the justices' comments

seemed skeptical of President Trump's executive order, which eliminates birthright citizenship

for children whose parents are undocumented or on temporary visas.

Many of them expressed pretty explicitly that they thought that the president's order was

unlawful and unconstitutional. So it was great to be there. It was obviously a packed courthouse.

But Brown says he can't predict where the high court will come down on the use of nationwide

injunctions, like the ones currently blocking Trump's order from taking effect.

He says there's been criticism of nationwide injunctions in general, but he says they're necessary in this case because different standards for citizenship across different states would be chaotic.

The U.S. Supreme Court could issue a decision by the beginning of July.
