Good afternoon from the KUOW Newsroom. This is Seattle now. I'm Paige Browning. Here are today's

top stories. It's Thursday, August 15th.

Two men are facing prosecution after violent home invasions, terrified parts of Western Washington.

The U.S. Attorney in Seattle has indicted the two. The men face racketeering and conspiracy charges

and are accused of coordinating larger groups.

One of the men, Christopher Johnson,

appeared in federal court in Seattle this afternoon.

And the investigation's ongoing.

Here's the FBI's special agent in charge, Richard Collodi.

Many actions of the defendants in this case were specifically designed to cause fear.

They kidnapped multiple people. They pretended to be the police.

They disabled cameras and even restrained children.

Officials said the robberies specifically targeted Asian Americans, and they resulted in the death of a mother named Ira Sock, who was shot in her bedroom during a robbery in Everett two years ago.

In addition to these federal charges, the Snow Homish County prosecutor says he also plans to file homicide charges against the two men.

In opioid news today, King County has a new hotline for people with opioid use disorder.
