Let's start with two important COVID updates.

The first is that yesterday, the CDC bolstered their recommendation that pregnant people

should be vaccinated against COVID-19.

To be clear, this had already been the recommendation, but this new guidance strengthened the original

advice, and seriously urges pregnant people to get the vaccine.

So far, there's limited data on birth outcomes since the vaccine has only been available since

December, but the small number of pregnancies that have been carried to term have not identified

any safety issues.

On the other hand, getting COVID-during pregnancy can lead to serious complications that threaten

the health of both the baby and the mother.

The second update is that yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom announced that California will

become the first state in the nation to require all teachers and school staff to get vaccinated

or undergo weekly COVID testing.

Clearly, Newsom is doing some work to make everyone forget about that French laundry

dinner, and I gotta respect that.
