Summary

As Jesus tells His disciples what will happen in John 16, they misread the situation and think they understand what will happen even though they are still confused. As we strive to learn from their mistake, we see how we should correctly view the things that happen in our lives, how the Holy Spirit will guide us, and how abiding in Christ gives us full assurance that we can handle anything we face in this world.

Let's get to it. John chapter 16 is where we are in our study.

0:05.0

Some scholars call John 16 the high ground of Scripture.

0:09.0

And I don't know if you can say one section of Scripture is higher than others,

0:14.0

but it really is, you get a sense that Jesus is talking about things that are of extreme importance.

0:21.3

These are the last words he's going to share with his disciples before he goes to the cross.

0:27.1

This is just now hours before he'll be apprehended.

0:31.3

You know, we've been on this section for quite a while.

One of the longer discourses Jesus gave was here in John, chapter 13, 14,

0:41.6

15. It's the upper room story. And then chapter 14, he begins his upper room discourse. So chapter 14,

Now, one of the overarching themes is the disciples are troubled by everything Jesus has told them.

1:05.4

So Jesus says, let not your heart be troubled.

1:09.2

And he's basically saying, hey, it's all going to be good. It's really

1:12.9

going to work out good. Remember Romans 828, you know, Paul would tell the church later, you know,

1:18.9

we know that all things do, in fact, work together for good, to them that love God, to them

1:24.1

who are the called according to his purpose. Like the scriptures tell us that,

1:28.5

but have you ever noticed that it's almost like when people quote that to you? It's like you

1:32.7

want to punch him in the face. All things work together for good. You're like, yeah, good for you.

1:37.8

Laity da. It's like, but it really is true. I'm reminded of that, you know, Chinese story proverb that, you know,

1:45.8

the guy gets a, he has a stallion, this Chinese man, and his stallion has done great work for the

1:54.1

farm, and the neighbors come, oh, what a beautiful stallion. That's really good. And he says,

1:58.2

maybe so, maybe not, who really knows? And then the, you know,
