Summary

Paul’s third missionary journey in Acts 19 takes him to Ephesus, where his preaching of the Gospel dramatically impacts the city. While there, he disciples the believers, teaching them about salvation through Jesus Christ, baptism and the Holy Spirit. However, several dramatic events also unfold, including a failed attempt by unbelievers to cast out a demon and a riot incited by silversmiths whose idol sales suffer as people turn to Christ in repentance.

0:00.0	Acts chapter 19. So last week in chapter 18 we ended Paul's second missionary journey,
0:10.4	and then we began his third last week. And where we kind of ended up there was,
0:17.4	you know, he's traveling, of course, originally from Antioch, and on this third journey,
0:22.5	he makes his way back to Ephesus.
0:24.5	If you recall, he was in Ephesus for a short time, came back to Jerusalem, and then Antioch,
0:30.8	and then back to Ephesus.
0:32.8	And that's something we've been kind of watching the way he's been traveling all over.
0:36.7	But Ephesus was a huge,
0:39.0	huge city and a real epicenter of commerce. It was one of the wealthiest cities in the world at that
0:45.8	time. And that plays into the story here. We're going to start in this chapter 19 at looking at
0:54.1	the 12 disciples.
0:56.3	But you might not think it's the same 12 disciples.
0:59.6	Did you know there's two 12 disciples in the Bible?
1:02.6	This is a second group of 12, not quite as dialed in as the first 12, but we're going to meet 12 more.
1:10.2	I love the British guy I met in Jerusalem,
1:14.4	and he was talking to our group. It was a great little old British guy, and he said,
1:20.4	you know, there were 12 disciples, and he said, if God wanted us to use the decimal system,
1:25.8	or the, not the decimal system, the metric system.
1:28.9	He said they would have been 10 disciples and not 12.
1:31.6	So I like that.
1:32.9	But this is a different 12 disciples.
1:35.4	Also, we finished the chapter last week looking at Apollos.
