Summary

In one of the most theologically significant chapters in the Bible, Paul lays out the Gospel message by declaring that salvation is only possible through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection – a concept that the Corinthian church still struggled to grasp. As we study his message in 1 Corinthians 15, we learn about the power and absolute necessity of the resurrection, see why it is one of the most provable events in history, and discover what it means for us as we face our own death.

1 Corinthians chapter 15 is where we are in our Bible study.

0:05.0

Some scholars call this the most important chapter of the Bible.

0:10.0

Now why would they say that?

0:12.0

And how could you say that about any chapter of the Bible?

0:14.0

I get why people would sort of bulk at that,

0:16.0

but really all of Christianity swings on one single truth.

0:23.1

Anybody want to know what that is?

0:24.8

The resurrection of Jesus Christ.

for you and for me. And what a glorious truth that is. So obviously, every chapter of the Bible is

0:50.1

important. But because of the resurrection of Jesus, we have salvation. So this is why it's so

0:55.5

important. And so Paul in chapter 15 here is going to raise the question, if Christ be not raised.

1:01.5

Like if Jesus didn't really raise up from the dead, then what? And it's not a good picture,

1:07.5

if you think of it that way. One of the things that might help us understand

1:10.8

why he's talking to the Corinthian Church the way he is, is because they had what is called the

1:15.4

Epicurean worldview, the Epicurean mindset. That is, you know, eat, drink and be merry for tomorrow

1:22.7

we die, live for today, you only live once, sort of the biblical era version of Yolo, materialistic.

1:29.1

Um, uh, a lot of the, uh, you know, Corinthians, they rejected the afterlife that you only live once.

1:36.2

So you might as well live hard, uh, and, and stuff like that. So it, it sort of seemed, you know,

1:43.1

on the surface, you might say it seemed sort of party animal,
