We continue with Paul addressing the Corinthian church with all of their quirks and sort of sinful tendencies.

And he's been dealing with, you know, questions that they had. They wrote him a letter and said,

hey, we have some questions. And really, First Corinthians is an answer to a lot of those questions.

And he's been answering things like fornication and adultery and marriage and singleness.

And the one that's kind of hard to relate to us today, that is meat sacrificed unto idols.

But we've shown in previous studies how that really does apply to us in so many areas.

Should we drink? Should we chew? Should we get a tattoo?

These are the kind of questions that actually are similar to the idea of should you eat meat,

sacrificed idols. Well, Paul continues with these questions, and he's still really, in chapter 8, 9,

and now 10, he's still

really dealing with that question of the meat sacrifice to idols. And you might say, well,

Brett, why so much on that when we really don't need all that? Like, we don't need all that

discussion on meat sacrifice, but I would argue we do for all the other reasons. We talked about should a Christian have a Christmas

tree. Well, weren't they used for pagan worship? Maybe in history, if you know your history about

that. But it's exactly the same question. So we really do have those relatable questions.

Is it legal? Or do we use our liberty? that's really what paul is balancing but more than

legalism or even liberty what's the l word that we really want to remember love right uh yeah we do

have liberty in christ legalism is we're no longer under the law, so the legal argument is not great.

But, you know, this division was really causing trouble in the church about whether or not

they should eat meat, sacrificed idols, or what that whole thing was all about.

You know, it's interesting because legalism or too much legalism, you know, it really makes for
