Summary
When Chloe agreed to teach a little girl piano lessons one summer in Lafayette, Louisiana, she never imagined it would turn into one of the creepiest true ghost stories she’d ever tell. Her neighbor had warned her about the sounds of children running and laughing through the house — but Chloe brushed it off as imagination.
That changed the day she poured a glass of water for her student’s “imaginary friend.” The moment she set it on the table, the second glass slid across the wood on its own — pushed by something unseen. From that instant, Chloe knew her neighbor’s stories were real.
Days later, while cat-sitting in the same house, she heard the laughter again. Down the dark hallway, three shadows darted between doorways, quick as children playing hide-and-seek. When she finally told the homeowner what she’d seen, the woman only nodded. “That’s about right,” she said. “Sometimes I see four.”
Whether they’re child spirits trapped in the house or something darker pretending to be innocent, no one knows. But the laughter, the moving glass, and the darting shadows still haunt Chloe’s memory — a reminder that not every “imaginary friend” is imaginary.
