So today we're going to be talking about Commander the Great War, which is sort of a grand

strategic perspective on World War I. And I have to say, it was

recommended to me by Rock Paper Shotguns, Tim Stone, because as I approach this topic, I, you know,

usually whenever I approach something I don't know much about, I try to get in touch with Tim

and pick his brain a little bit, and this is something he cited as

being particularly strong. And I have to say, I kind of went in with medium to low expectations

just because I think I approach most war games now with a bit of trepidation. And I was really

delighted by just how fun this game is, how easy it is to play,

and yet how many of the salient features of Ruler 1 it seems to get right.

Troy, what was your expectations for the Commander series heading into this game?

I know you have a little more background than I do.

Well, I played way back the end in the day, Commander Europe at War, which was from the same developers.

It's now available as Military History, Commander Europe at War, because they have the History Channel branding.

And I liked it quite a bit when it came out. And this one came out originally in 2012, though now there was an iPad version which came

out last month, which was kind of a hot topic.

And I really dug Commander Europe at War.

When I wrote about it way back in 2009, it had, it was simple.
