Welcome to the last call of the week for the three martini lunch.

This is our weekly recap of the biggest stories from the past week.

Jim Garrity was away and for three days I discussed the news with Charlie Cook, senior editor

and writer at National Review, and host of the Charles C.W. Cook podcast.

One of the best stories of the week was seeing the Trump administration show how serious it is

about finding and eliminating health care fraud.

Well, let's dig into one area where conservatives I know would have loved the government to be

much more active in years past, and that is the issue of combating fraud, the waste of our tax

dollars. The phrase fraud, waste, and abuse has kind of been thrown around

sometimes as a punchline, sometimes by people semi-serious. Of course, we had Doge, which was

designed to root out some fraud and wasteful spending at the beginning of this administration.

The intent was great. The execution, not always fantastic, but at least an effort was made. And now an effort

is being made. The president announced it at the State of the Union address that he's going after

fraud, particularly in health care and so forth. And so that was in the wake of everything that was

happening in Minnesota at the time with the Learing Center and Autism Medicaid programs and everything.

But now we've seen hospice fraud in California.

We've seen it now in Ohio, thanks to the Daily Wire reporting.

There's been other places as well.
