Our first guest is Tom Treloor, chairman and professor of mathematics at Hillsdale College.

Dr. Trelaw, thanks for joining us.

Thanks for having me.

We discussed today a brand new

online course available at online.hillsdale.edu, and it's titled Mathematics and Logic

from Euclid to Modern Geometry, and it is available right now. So tell us a bit about the

course. What will people, what do you hope people will

take away from the course if they enroll and take the classes? Well, what I'd really like

for them to be able to take away is this either reminder or understanding that mathematics

is not strictly about computation and memorization, as it's oftentimes taught

today.

It's not just that we have this collection of facts, but that we understand how these

collection of facts fit together.

And then once we understand that, then we can go back and ask questions, right?

We can question what we believe may be true.

And the important things in a course like this is we can test it.

We can test whether or not what we think might be true is in fact consistent with what we already know.
