An example of an operation that was arguably very successful and extremely fast is an example

of oral disinformation.

So during the Grand Siege of Mecca in 1979, the rumor made the rounds in Pakistan that

the Americans were somehow trying to take control of the mosque in Mecca.

And the Soviets seized on that rumor.

They essentially picked it up in Karachi, I believe, and then replayed it on the radio

and fed it to their people on the ground to the Pakistani public.

And famously, there was a mob where a large demonstration that stormed the embassy in

Islamabad and a couple of people died, I think four people died.

And it was a deadly outcome of an active measure.
