That's pretty cool just hearing that.

It is sort of a thrill.

I have to tell you, being here and speaking to you because I've watched the program going back to your days as the doctor. I remember very vividly. I just started watching it in the States around the time you came in. I'd heard, you know, tell there's going to be a new doctor, but I had no idea when I turned on the television that week to watch what turned out to be Tom Baker's last episode,

that this was going to occur.

And so I got the full impact of that moment of transformation

in the way you sort of hope to get it.

It was a total surprise.

I knew there was something coming somewhere, but it was a total surprise to me.

You were, I guess, up until Matt Smith the youngest actor to come in and play the part.

And Tom Baker had done it for such a long time. That must have been a daunting thing. Yes? well it's a question I'm asked a lot in

America because in an awful lot of America they had not seen anyone apart from

Tom Baker but in Britain of course Tom was simply the fourth doctor and I had

grown up watching William Hartle and Patrick Troutin. So I was almost more in awe of

following them than I was of Tom because although I watched occasional

episodes of John Perwies and of Tom's you know I had stopped watching after Patrick Trout

and simply because I was got to an age when I think you know you have other other interests.

Shall we say? And so that when I was asked you know to be the next doctor, I really was mainly concentrating on, you know, how do I follow

William Hartle and Patrick Trouten in my head.

But I'm aware that in America that a lot of people, I mean I was a complete shock.
