Marvel celebrating the 100th birthday of the legendary Jack curvy I'm Ben Morris the

editorial director of digital media and today I am talking with Marvel's chief

creative officer Joe Kossada Joe how are you doing this afternoon I'm doing great

Ben how you doing I'm great man I'm excited to talk to you about Kirby this is a

subject I think we all have a lot of passion for.

Absolutely, absolutely, you know, I mean, I grew up on Jack's art, so he's been incredibly important in shaping my life as an artist as well as you know later on when actually

came an artist.

Cool let's talk about all that but let's start from the top you talked about

growing up with Kirby's art what was your first exposure to Jack Kirby?

What's the first Kirby art you can remember?

Well, you know, my father got me my first comic book, which was Spider-Man,

and, but that wasn't Jack.

But I then went back to the candy store in my

neighborhood I picked a bunch of Marvel stuff and Fantastic Four is my first

exposure to Jack's artwork and and we're just even to say is my life

life never been to say.

What stood out for you even as a kid in Kirby's artwork that made it different from say the person who was

working on Spider-Man or any other artists you were seeing? Yeah I mean you know there

was some incredible drastic back in those days right but but as a kid of Kirby's artwork and you have to put it into historical you know

perspective it was like something from another planet it was like it was you know

it's I guess I could only quit it to like athletics when all of a sudden you know an athlete appears in a particular sport who's not just great but head and shoulders about everyone else at that time and and Jack captured something in his artwork
