Summary
Nordstrom’s 4th-quarter results were (on the surface) so much better than those of Ross Stores, so why are both stocks falling the same? Dollar Tree adds $2 billion to its stock buyback plan. Emily Flippen analyzes those stories, plus FuboTV’s 300% rise over the past year (and 15% drop today).

| 0:00.0 | It's Wednesday, March 3rd. Welcome to Market Fully. I'm Chris Hill with me today, the |
| 0:06.6 | one and only, Emily Fleppin. Thanks for being here. Thanks again for having me. |
| 0:11.5 | We have a quartet of fourth quarter earnings reports in entertainment and retail. Let's |
| 0:18.8 | start with this interesting duo. Nordstrom's profits and revenue came in solidly higher |
| 0:25.0 | than expected. Ross stores, a discount retailer, their profits and revenue were solidly lower |
| 0:31.4 | than expected. And yet, both stocks are down 4% this morning. And I think if I'm Nordstrom, |
| 0:38.5 | I'm a little, I'm a little miffed at this. What, I mean, take those in any order you want. |
| 0:44.1 | Well, I think the key word there is expected because what was expected for Nordstrom is |
| 0:51.2 | different than what was expected for Ross. Nordstrom has been a challenged business to |
| 0:57.4 | say the least. And despite revenue and earnings coming in higher than what was expected, those |
| 1:03.2 | expectations still represented a double digit 20% decrease year over year in terms of their |
| 1:10.3 | top line. So Nordstrom right now is in a really different position than a Ross. And Ross, |
| 1:16.8 | being a business that is mostly physical, very, very little, if any online presence, the |
| 1:22.8 | expectations there again, we're lower, but still represented only a 4% decrease year over year. |
| 1:28.3 | So it's a story of two retailers here, a high flying discount retailer that has struggled in |
| 1:35.6 | the midst of COVID with very little digital footprint against this legacy retailer that has been |
| 1:41.5 | in the process of really downsizing its business, trying to get more in to the discounted retailers, |
| 1:47.9 | just trying to prove that its business isn't going to zero, or at least isn't going to zero as |
| 1:52.4 | quickly as some people believe. And, you know, added context around Ross stores. As you said, |
| 1:59.6 | they're so heavily levered to physical locations, a bunch of which are in California. And so |
| 2:06.1 | they essentially had a bunch of stores closed for this quarter. So not all that surprising. |
| 2:15.1 | Nordstrom stock, both these stocks are barely in the positive column over the past year. |
