Allah suiata tells us again and again in the Quran to look back,

not to admire the past, but to understand it.

During this month of the Quran,

as we increase our dedication to the book of Allah, suanna-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-a through our recitations and through our increased prayers,

I want to undertake a journey with you through some key events in the life of our

Ummah, the Ummah of the Quran.

We will walk through moments when Islam spread

across vast lands, when Palestine was liberated, and when faith overcame empires. And we will

also confront moments when the Ummma stood at the brink of destruction, when cities were burned.

Institutions collapsed, and after the Mongol

invasions, when many believed Islam itself might not survive.

Ramadan reminds us of this reality.

It is the month of revelation, and it is the month of the Battle of Badr, when a small, outnumbered

group stood against overwhelming

odds and the Prophet sallu al-a-u-sle-sle-sa' prayed, if this group is destroyed, oh Allah, you

will not be worshipped on this earth.

From that moment onward, history became inseparable from faith.

Our religion is divine, but our history is human.
