Fontes, he's lived through this fight from every angle. He's Arizona's Secretary of State. He was

the Maricopa County recorder who oversaw the 2020 election. and he testified before Congress about the threats

to election workers. Today, Secretary Fontes joins me to explain why the Department of

Justice's demand for state voter rolls is not just wrong. It's illegal. Why dismantling

election protections will undermine our future and how election officials and the public must prepare

Good. I'm glad this time you're seated in an office. Last time I had you on, you were literally

driving in the backseat of a car. I guess you weren't driving. You were being driven. And you conveyed some really important information. So I'm glad to you this time you have made it on terra firma. Yes, making sure that we're doing what we need to do. But as you said, we're always on the going we're always fighting the good fight here I'm happy to be with you again we are a

year into the Trump presidency.

We just recently experienced the one-year anniversary of January 6th. And I want to get your take on

the arc of time, whether it's the five years from January 6, whether it's the one

year that Donald Trump has been in office. Because, you know, what people may or may not know about

you is you were in 2020, literally at ground zero for election denialism, for the circus that

became, you know, the big lie. People think about

the big lie as taking place in Georgia and Pennsylvania, and it did, in Michigan and Wisconsin,

and it did, Nevada, which it did. But Arizona was sort of special, and I take this as someone

who litigated more than 60 cases on behalf of Joe Biden and the

Democratic Party to defeat these efforts in that the nature of the allegations in Arizona were always

more preposterous, even judging that on a curve. But also it lingered in the culture much longer.
