Hey there, I'm so glad you stopped by for this podcast. We hope so much we can serve you today.

0:12.4

Turn with me to Romans chapter 7. Romans 7, our primary focus will be verses 14 through 25,

0:23.6

but we're going to take a few minutes just to touch on the previous section in 7 through 12. I won't

0:31.2

take long there, but I do want you to see it. To me, it did not call for a lesson of its own,

0:35.9

but we need to get to the other portion. So we'll just touch there for a moment and get on to our

0:41.6

primary text in verse 13. Let me read verses 7 through 12. If you glance back and see in verse 6,

0:49.9

the words that we now serve in the new way of the Spirit and not in the old way of the written

0:54.1

code, I pray that brings back to mind some of what we studied together as we talked about the new

1:00.0

way of the Spirit and learning to be led by the promptings of the Spirit. It was certainly a

1:06.0

lesson that spoke to me. I pray that it spoke to you as well. I'm picking up in 7. What shall we say then

1:12.0

is the law sin? Certainly not. Indeed, I would not have known what sin was except through the law,

1:20.7

for I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said do not covet,

1:25.3

but sins seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment produced in me every kind of

1:30.8

covetous desire for apart from law sin is dead. Once I was alive apart from law, but when the

1:37.4

commandment came since spring to life and I died, I find that the very commandment that was intended

1:43.2

to bring life actually brought death for sin seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment

1:48.4

deceived me and through the commandment put me to death. So then the law is holy and the commandment

1:54.8

is holy righteous and good. Now after all Paul has said in previous chapters about us being

2:03.3

free from the law he stops long enough to think back and we've talked about the consummate

2:08.8

teacher that he is because he's constantly asking himself if he's brought up something some kind

2:14.2

of question that he is not yet answered and he's doing exactly that in this passage because he begins

2:18.9

to think to himself have I said enough about being free from the law that somehow somebody has
