Welcome to The Investigation. I'm Chris Vlastu, Senior Executive Producer of Investigations

0:10.1

here at ABC News, and I'm joined by my guest co-host, Catherine Foulders, who covers the White

0:15.7

House and Capitol Hill. And I want to bring, though, our chief congressional correspondent, Mary Bruce. So, Mary,

0:23.1

now we are finally perhaps going to have an impeachment trial. Is that true? It is true. This is

0:28.1

finally going to happen. We don't know exactly the timing just yet, but we do know that at some point

0:34.0

this week, Speaker Pelosi is finally going to be sending over the articles of impeachment

0:38.4

after this delay of a couple of weeks. The impasse has ended. There's some debate we can have,

0:44.7

and I'm sure we will, about what actually came of that delay. But we do know that the train is now

Then, of course, the Chief Justice will be sworn in, along with all the members of the Senate, all 100 members of the Senate, who will have to sit there very quietly throughout this entire trial.

1:16.9

And then they'll have this debate on the guidelines, on what this trial is actually going to look like.

1:21.6

And that, Chris, is where things get interesting, because that's where you're going to see a rather robust conversation about this question of witnesses,

1:28.6

which, of course, has been at the center of the holdup here for the last few weeks,

1:32.9

because Democrats still insist that you need to hear from key players like the former National Security Advisor,

1:37.5

John Bolton, the acting chief of staff, Mick Mulvaney, and there are a handful of Republican senators who agree,

1:43.5

and Democrats are going to try and force

1:44.7

them to go on the record and say just that.

1:46.9

But do you think Nancy Pelosi's, let's go back to what you said in the beginning, do you think

1:52.3

this, I don't know if it was political gamesmanship that Nancy Pelosi was doing by withholding
