Summary

Students are being allowed to leave class, not for a field trip, but for a political rally. A school bus pulls up… but it’s not dropping kids off at school. Students are being allowed to leave class, not for a field trip, but for a political rally. In Chicago Public Schools, students were bused to May Day protests — with transportation and even lunch provided. But in a district where reading proficiency is already struggling, I have to ask: 👉 Is this education… or something else? I break down what happened, why it matters, and the bigger question facing schools across America. This isn’t about politics — it’s about priorities in education.

Well, today let's play a game. How many times have you played the game where they say,

0:05.3

what's wrong with this picture? And then they show you a picture and you've got to figure out

0:09.6

something that doesn't fit, something that doesn't belong, something that doesn't make even

0:13.5

common sense. And for those of you who are listening to this podcast, instead of watching it,

0:20.6

I'm going to paint a word picture, so don't worry.

0:23.1

I'm going to do my best to describe the video I'm about to play.

Now, this was shot last Friday, May 1st. A yellow school bus at the curb. Front door is open.

0:34.1

A few students walk off. They look high school age, maybe middle school. You can spot a few

0:40.1

teachers. You can count about a dozen other students on the curb who seemingly got off the bus first.

0:46.1

If you look closely, you can make out a Chicago police car. Looks like a normal school day,

0:52.8

right, in the country's third largest city. So what is

0:56.9

wrong with this picture? Well, let me give you a little help there. For starters, there's no

1:02.9

school building. All these students are cutting class and they're doing it with the blessing of the

1:08.8

Chicago public schools and the Teachers Union.

1:12.9

There certainly are a number of students here and classes are not out yet.

1:18.1

The reason? So they can be pawns in a progressive political rally under the guise of a

1:25.3

May Day March. These aren't my words.

1:29.2

Political pawns is how a lawyer representing angry Chicago public schools' parents

1:35.0

described the situation.

1:37.9

He took their argument to the teacher's union about a week before the march.

1:43.2

I think what everyone is here is they want their children to learn.

1:46.0

They don't want to be used as political pawns in somebody else's political statements.
