Sometimes you get a glimpse into the lives of single or childless couples and you feel a tinge of

jealousy. How much more time they have, what they haven't had to worry about during the pandemic.

Even the acronym Dink, D-I-N-K, can make your mouth water a little bit. Dual incomes. No kids. And yet you know you made the right

decision, not just because you love your kids, but because you love what they have brought into

your life, the fun, the joy, the opportunities to learn, the challenges that have forced you to grow.

Kids also give us the most important thing in the

world. And no, it isn't just evolutionary success. Our children have given us purpose, a reason why we're

here. The verse from the gospel of Mark should land deeply with any parent. Whoever wants to become

great among you must be your servant, it reads,

and whoever wants to be the first must be the slave of all. For even the son of man did not come

to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. We are, as we've said,

here to get things for them. They owe us nothing. We owe them everything.

We are here to give them what we didn't get. We are here to have multi-generational impact for and

through them. We are here to give them a good life. And in so doing, make our own lives worth living.
