My good friend Dave Savage sent me an interview where the guest was telling the story of a

famous and massively successful magazine entrepreneur.

The man grew up in the Midwest.

His father had left the family and he was being raised by his working single mom.

He did terribly in school, but he promised his mother that he would take the SAT, which

is required to apply to college.

He didn't expect much since he was basically failing out of high school.

When he got the test results back, he was Ford.

He scored a 1480 at a 1600, which basically is a genius level score.

He excitedly showed his mom, knowing her son as she did, her first response was, did

you cheat?

No, I just, I tried, he said bluntly.

But with the scantrons and different versions, you couldn't cheat.

So she said you really got that score this time, acting a little bit more proudly?

Yeah, I guess so, he confirmed.

Apparently, he was always really smart.

It just took the standardized test to unlock it, he thinks.

When he goes back to school the following year, he decides that he's a 1480 type of person.
