Summary

Hey Slaycaters, meet Lela and Raymond Howard, a sweet elderly couple from Salado, Texas who, against the wishes of concerned family members, decide to drive themselves to a nearby festival, 15 miles away. They never made it — in part because Lela was driving in the complete opposite direction. n fact, a cop pulled them over for driving with their headlights off in Arkansas, about 500 miles away. Meanwhile, back home panicked friends and family were desperately searching for the missing couple. Did they deliberately go on the run? Was Lela’s Alzheimer’s to blame? Were they trying to escape a life of doctors appointments, medications, aches & pains? This 1997 story became the inspiration for the song ‘The Way’ by Fastball -- only with a much happier ending.
