Welcome to Third Party Week! From time to time this election year, we're going to do some special series that highlight the rhythm of an election cycle. This week, we are looking at third parties: who runs for a third party bid, who votes for a third party, and how much do third party candidates really matter?

Today, we bring you an episode we did in the fall of 2021 about Ross Perot. His presence looms large over the story of the 1992 election, but he'd actually dropped out for much of that race. In this episode, Jody, Niki, and Kellie look at the moment he worked his way back onto the stage - literally, at a memorable three-way debate.

0:57.7	This day, October 12, 1992, the first three-way TV presidential debate in history took place featuring George
1:05.6	H.W. Bush, the Republican incumbent Bill Clinton, the Upstart Democrat who
1:10.3	would go on to win of course and independent super super upstart Ross
1:15.2	Perrault. Perrault as he often did kind of stole the show that night even
1:20.6	though he was really a last minute addition and there were lots of questions
1:24.3	right up until the last moments about whether he would even run or even participate in the debate.
1:29.2	So here to discuss that debate a little bit on Perrault's insurgency and maybe we will get to that ever-present
1:35.1	question or myth really of whether Perrault actually caused Bush that election and paved the path
1:40.2	for Clinton.
