Summary

A Cold War mystery, featuring the CIA, Howard Hughes, a sunken Soviet sub and quite possibly a sunken American sub too. With cover stories inside cover stories and weak government explanations for obvious questions, this one is a puzzle wrapped in an enigma zip-locked inside a mystery.

Hey guys, Steve here. You are listening to one of our original 26 episodes. If you've

0:05.9

listened to any of our new episodes, you're gonna notice that we're sounding a little

0:09.6

different in these ones. Yeah, there's a reason for that. There is. They've been remastered.

0:13.8

They have been remastered. Because they had a really annoying hum. Yeah, I mean a huge

0:18.6

thanks to listener James for doing almost all of the legwork on this thing. Yes. You'll

0:23.2

also notice if you had listened to what we're calling the last 26 episodes before, and

0:28.2

0:33.4

1:31.7

1:36.2

part of a CIA project that the Hughes Corporation was providing cover for. So, the Gloomar Explorer

1:43.8

was, it turns out, not mining manganese modules at all. It was raising a Soviet submarine.

1:51.4

What's a manganese module? I'm not even sure what the hell that is. Yeah, there are manganese

1:58.7

modules on the ocean floor and manganese is a rare metal. That's worth a lot of money,

2:02.8

I guess. So, if it weren't so darn expensive to go retrieve those things off the ocean floor,

2:08.6

then we could actually be grabbing those things and utilizing them, but apparently we're

2:12.5

not. Okay.
