The Michael Berry show so we've been talking about St. George and the the incorporation of a new city why it's coming about and the and the background of that for those of you outside of Baton Rouge you're about to learn the story Drew Murrell is the attorney leading the charge Drew why the creation of the the to pull away from Baton Rouge? Well, I mean, at this point, there's so many reasons.

I'm not sure why not.

But if you want to start with the impetus,

it was to create a better school system originally.

We have a failing school system, 57th out of 64 parishes in a state rank near dead laughs in education.

So a group formed a school district and they were told at the legislature by now Mayor Sherry Weston Broom that if we wanted a school district we had

to form a city. So we began to look at that city process and what we found out was corruption,

mismanagement, overspending, and more importantly, our tax dollars in the St. George

area were subsidizing operations for the city of Baton Rouge for services we couldn't even

access, but we've been paying for it for

decades so we want to take our tax dollars back take our schools back and

create a city that we could be proud of at a world-class city without all the

mistakes that Baton Rouge was making.

Well, and we know what those mistakes are, because we see them in Houston, we see them in New Orleans,

we see them in every major city in the country, and a lot of it is race-based.

A lot of it is race-based a lot of it is race-based voting race-based

division race-based hatred a lack of criminal justice a lack of

enforcement of the laws and and we've seen the collapse of cities. This is in my

opinion a bellwether case of people saying I'm not going to flee to the country

I'm going to take back my city and create my own city the kind of city people want to live in.

But what is the legal argument for how you can do that? How did how did you win this case?

Well we followed the law and we did everything the law required. We got 25% of the registered voters to sign a petition.
