Dad, watch me.

Hey, dad, look, watch this, dad. When you hear those three words,

there can be only one response. To drop everything and look, to engage, to be flattered and excited,

to love every second, and to stare with rapt attention at your child's latest discovery,

achievement, experiment, or daredevil

attempt. If you're like most parents, this probably sounds obvious when we put it like that.

Of course you're going to watch to pay attention. And yet, you're so busy. You've got a lot on

your mind. You've got responsibilities. And besides, you've been all over the world. You've

seen some truly impressive things in the time you've been on. And besides, you've been all over the world, you've seen some

14th consecutive cannonball into the pool? The ninth attempt at doing a full double twirl in her

princess dress? You know the answer. We've talked before about magic words. We've talked about

what an honor it is to be trusted, to be asked. Well, this is both of those things to be performed for,

to bear witness to the moment they overcome a physical limitation, a mental block, and unlock their

potential, for someone to want you to see them. Those are the

memories that sear themselves into your circuits in a way that photographs could never capture.
