Summary

After the longest NHL season ever, a few drinks are deserved all around as Jeff and Elliotte run down the past week in the NHL. Vegas landed the biggest free-agency fish in Alex Pietrangelo (00:01), to the displeasure of some Golden Knights players and their agents. The Canucks added Nate Schmidt (28:30), but only after they lost some key contributors. Taylor Hall bet on himself in Buffalo (19:00), Torey Krug took his talents to St. Louis (42:30), Toronto got tougher and better on the blue line (55:00) while the Blackhawks (36:30) got worse (Jonathan Toews isn’t happy about it), and the goalie carousel stopped with a number of stoppers in new homes. All of that and more. Plus, new Maple Leafs defencemen and 2020 Stanley Cup Champion Zach Bogosian (1:12:00) talks about Tampa’s Cup run, why this past season was his most challenging yet, signing in Toronto and playing an old school game Watch “Zach Bogosian shows off is car” HERE Music Outro: Julian Brown – on an august day You also heard “leviathan” and “knowing without really knowing” by Julian Brown on this podcast. So just on this podcast I cracked open my beer because now that Petranilo

0:09.1

is signed I feel I can relax a little bit and I've got some Scotch here too for after the beer so I would

0:16.8

suggest to anybody who's listening stay to the late ends of this podcast because it could

0:22.1

get better.

0:22.8

Here's a buckled Elliot Friedman trying to stand around a few words.

0:27.0

Oh yeah there's a lot of layers to this Alex Petranjillo situation and that's why the

0:37.7

podcast is out late when you consider we wanted to do this once all the big stories were put to bed.

0:44.4

Here we are on Monday night 946 eastern and the Alex Petranjillo situation is put to

0:51.4

bed which bleeds into the Nate Schmidt situation which

0:55.2

bleeds into the Vancouver Canucks situation which goes back into the Vegas Golden Knights situation and let's begin there.

1:04.0

Alex Petranjillo, the deal is seven years, it's 8.8 million dollars on the AAV and a full no move clause.

1:14.0

Before we talk about the team, let's talk about the player.

1:17.0

What just happened with Alex Petruangelo?

1:20.0

Go brick by brick.

1:22.0

So I think that Alex Petruangelo and St. Louis chatted several times in the last week,

1:32.0

but from what I've heard, although there was plenty of talk and

1:38.6

plenty of negotiation, I don't know that anyone ever believed it was going to get done. I just think the sides were too

1:46.6

far apart philosophically and it had been left too long. I think by that time, you know, Petrangelo was frustrated, he was upset. I think there was a lot of emotion involved.

2:02.0

I just don't think they ever got close enough where anyone was confident that they were going

2:07.4

to get a deal.

2:09.2

So free agency started at noon eastern on Friday. I had heard Friday afternoon that he was going to go to

2:16.1

Vegas on Saturday, couldn't get it confirmed, and then of course somebody who worked at that
