This is the aftermath.

And Phil, good news for everybody.

It's the aftermath of a moral victory, 25 to 20.

The Patriots toppled by the Philadelphia Eagles.

However, when we're looking for silver linings, and for me, I always am, I look at a team that was down 16 to nothing and outscored its counterparts, the NFC champion defending NFC champion Eagles.

They outscored them 20 to 9.

They allowed a field goal on a touchdown on early drives.

And then after that, it was punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, punt, field goal, field goal, punt, punt, downs, fumble, downs. So to me, what the Patriots

did far exceeded, especially defensively, anything I anticipated them doing. I actually thought

they were better on defense than I anticipated. And I thought they were pretty good on

offense once they got their head out of their ass cheeks. I would agree with you on both

counts. I thought this defense was tremendous. And maybe I had built in a little bit of a slow start

for the Eagles because they didn't play in the preseason.

They didn't play at all.

We criticize the Patriots at times for not doing much in the preseason.

They did nothing.

So I assumed it might take some time, but it really felt like they never got into a rhythm, Tom.

They got hurt on a couple of quarterback scrambles and they were, you know,

gifted two touchdowns by Patriots blunders early on, but they were really, really good. It was a mix

of zone and man is what I was told after the game. They were disguising. There was pre-snap movement.
