For Vault Studios, I'm Will Johnson. And I'm Reid Redmond. You're listening to The Daily Crime. It's been 10 years since an 83-year-old grandmother was murdered in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Investigators still don't know who's responsible.

For us and for the families, the case never goes away.

Sometimes people think that we forget about these unsoft cases,

and that couldn't be further from the truth. In Tennessee, an arrest in a more than decade-old cold case, police have charged the husband of a woman found dead in 2011 with first-degree murder.

They lost their mother 11 years ago, and now it looks like they could be losing their dad,

and this is not really a happy day.

This past spring marked 10 years since the death of an 83-year-old woman from Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

Reid, what have you been able to learn about Irma Kailer's life prior to her death in 2012?

Well, I spoke to Matt Kleindens, a reporter at our partner

station, Fox 43 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, and he learned a little bit about Irma Kailer

from talking with investigators. Essentially, what they told him is that she was a typical

retiree. Irma Kailer, you know, was to join her retirement, essentially, in Lancaster. She lived by herself in the apartment that she was in. When the incident occurred, it came as a shock to not just the family, but the police as well, given the lifestyle that she was living prior to the incident that occurred 10 years ago.

So Irma Kaler was a mother of two and a grandmother to 10 grandchildren.

And her obituary talks about how she enjoyed spending time with children in the neighborhood and with her dog, a little Jack Russell Terrier.

She liked watching the Phillies. And again, like we heard from that, she was just your typical 83-year-old retiree.

All right. So take us back to May of 2012.

What happened?

It's a horrific crime scene.

A neighbor went into Irma Kailer's apartment and found her lying on the kitchen floor

stabbed to death.
