and how to get better at our most important job, being a parent. Sometimes in these episodes,

I talk to best-selling authors and elite performers and other guests, but lately I've also

been having conversations with my wife, Samantha, the co-parent of my two

boys. We do it over in the Daily Stoic studio here in Bastrop, Texas. She and I talk about things

that we're working on as parents, things that we're working on as people, and how we are supporting

each other, challenging each other, and like I said, trying to get better at what we do.

Hey, it's Ryan. Welcome to another episode of The Daily Dad Podcast. If you listen to the Daily Stoic podcast at all, you know that sort of I tend to end the interview with, hey, you want to go check

out some books? And what we do is we end up walking through the Painted Porch bookstore and I sort of

pick out different books that I think that guest will like. Sometimes a misunderstanding. They think I'm just like giving them books that I'm then expecting them to pay for. And I go, no, no, no. These are books that I am picking out for you as a thank you for coming all the way out where it's a bit of a trek. And I go, this is why I have a bookstore, obviously to sell books but also to hook up my friends with books. And so I go through and I pick

out different books for folks. And we sort of talk about what they mean, what they represent, why I think they would like them, why we carry them. And then usually they sign copies of their books. And then if we have a little bit of extra time, we tend to ask some parenting questions. We do this for Daily Dad's Instagram. We do it for the podcast also. Oh, and by the way, you can check out all these sort of walkthroughs on my YouTube channel. I'll link to that. But Matthew McConaughey's has been blowing up. We just posted one I wanted to bring you part of today. Richard Reeves, who wrote of Boys and Men. He's the president of the American Institute for Boys and Men and a senior fellow at the Brookings Institute.

We asked him some

parenting questions that I was very curious about because, as I said, I've got two young boys.

And then Donald Robertson, one of my favorite Stoic writers, who is a cognitive behavioral therapist

and a trainer. He's also a fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health.

I wanted to ask him, specifically after he just did this book on Socrates, like what

parenting advice the ancients have and then certainly what CBT can teach us as parents and

what from CBT we can teach our kids. I want to bring you two chunks of parenting advice,
