out how Jesus transformed his disciples fear-filled despair into

irrepressible gladness and we're learning what that means for us today.

John Chapter 20 and

19, John 2019, on the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for

fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, peace be with you.

When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his sign.

Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.

Jesus said to them again, peace be with you as the Father has

sent me even so I'm sending you and when he had said this he breathed on them

and said to them receive the Holy Spirit, if you forgive the sins of any, they are

forgiven them. If you withhold forgiveness from any, it is withheld. Amen. Well there you have the scene it's described for us

quite vividly by John in the few verses that I read. It's the evening of

Easter Sunday. Where would you expect the disciples to be on the

evening of Easter Sunday? Presumably singing songs about the resurrection and so on? If that's

what you've been thinking, then you need to look again at the text because it tells so on the

the next because it tells us that on the evening of Easter Sunday they were in hiding.

In fact, not only in hiding but they had the doors locked because they were fearful, afraid for their lives.
