Summary

Romans 4:13-15 - For the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith is null and the promise is void. 15 For the law brings wrath, but where there is no law there is no transgression.

Romans 2:12-16 - For all who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. 13 For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. 14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them 16 on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

0:06.4

thankful that you're with me for this time of alignment, this time for us to get

0:10.7

our thinking straight for the day.

0:13.0

Because when we can fix our thinking, we fix most of the behavioral and

0:19.0

attitudinal problems that we have in life because our thinking comes into alignment with God's way of

0:24.2

thinking. And that's what we've been trying to do here as we go through the book of

0:28.4

Romans chapter 4 and we're specifically trying to get our thinking right about how we are justified in God's

0:35.7

sight.

0:36.7

What is it that makes us okay with God?

0:40.1

Is it being a good person?

0:42.1

Is it trying to be, I don't know somehow worthy of what he would want us to be

0:48.2

you see the apostle Paul who writes the book of Romans tells us no it's none of those things in fact he's

0:54.5

going to say it so clearly and so emphatically today that it makes me stop and pay

1:00.0

attention let's look we're in Romans chapter 4 versus 13 through 15. And he starts out by talking

1:06.8

about an Old Testament character, Abraham. He says, the promise to Abraham and his offspring that he would be heir of the world

1:16.0

did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.

1:22.0

Now let's stop there and make sure we understand what he's saying.

1:26.2

He's saying God didn't give him a promise because he had lived such a good life or because he had done certain things.

1:35.0

God gave him this promise that he would be air of the world just out of the

1:42.0

graciousness of his own heart. And the point he's making is

1:46.1

that Abraham believed God when God gave him that promise. So put yourself in

1:52.2

Abraham Sandals, so to speak. Abraham is a pagan
