Welcome to a brand new season of Send Me To Sleep. We'll be immersing ourselves in the

serene beauty of the Asemite by John Murr. John Murr was a renowned American naturalist,

author and environmental philosopher. His writings and activism were instrumental in the

establishment of several national parks, including the Asemite. Murr's deep love for nature

expressed through his eloquent prose, emphasising the interconnectedness of all living things

and the intrinsic value of the wilderness. Here's a short preview of what you can expect.

Looking eastward from the summit of the Pecheco Pass, one shining morning, a landscape was

displayed that after all my wanderings still appeared as the most beautiful I had ever beheld.

At my feet laid a great central valley of California,

level and flowery, like a lake of pure sunshine, 40 or 50 miles wide, 500 miles long,

one rich third garden of yellow composite, and from the eastern boundary of this vast,

golden flowerbed, rose to mighty Sierra, miles in height, and so gloriously coloured,

and so radiant, it seemed not clothed with light, but wholly composed of it, like the

walls of some celestial city. Through vivid and breathtaking descriptions, experience the
