Hello and welcome to the Yarniaks podcast. This is episode number 290, which we are recording on Wednesday, February 22nd, 2023. I'm Gail and I'm Charlene and we have the coolest

news like hot off the presses we pulled up to the Yacht Harbor today to record and what did we

see bird sighting we saw the famous local bald eagles that have been here for several months.

And I have been trying to catch a glimpse of them for quite a while now.

And they are out today flying around the Santa Cruz Harbor.

Very cool.

We are not knitting because we are so focused. I think we've

already been here at least a half an hour before starting to record because we can't take our

eyes off of the giant eucalyptus trees in front of us. It's been very, very windy and I'm just

blown away. I wouldn't, I told Charlene, I wouldn't have been more surprised if I had seen a dolphin swim by in the Yacht Harbor than seeing two bald eagles flying around. It's just incredible. It's very exciting because I have seen so many photographs of them and heard so many local birders stories about watching them and I walk here frequently

looking for them so I'm very excited to have spotted them finally so excited yeah

okay so what are you wearing okay what I have been wearing is my Beacon sweater.

Beacon is a pullover by Shelley Anderson.

It is knit in worsted white yarn, and it is a Dolman-sleeved pullover.

Dolman sleeves are sleeves that are made in one piece from the fabric of the body.

So if you're sewing, you cut out one piece of fabric that has the sleeve that comes out from the

body. If you're knitting and creating your own fabric, you knit it all together as one piece.

And these dolman sleeves are somewhat batwing, which means they are big when they are close to the body and get narrower close to the wrist.

This pattern, beacon, comes in eight sizes, 32 inches to 62 inches, 81 centimeters to 157 centimeters.

And it's a basic cruneck that has ribbing on all the edges.

And the yarn that I used when I knit it, number one is 75% merino 25% ingora and it is a lovely

yarn I have to say this is I think it's my only sweater that I've ever knit with bunny yarn.
