On that morning, September 4th, 1957, Dorothy would become the first black student to attend

Harry Harding High School in Charlotte, North Carolina.

A school that was never designed with her in mind in the first place.

In fact, Harry Harding, the man in which the school was named after, was actually the

son of a Confederate Army major and was a major stable and major player in the early days

of the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System and its lack of integration.
