Welcome to the Conversations that Matter Podcast. My name is John Harris. We are going to talk about some

0:18.7

SBC stuff again, some aftermath from the convention and I've titled it the world is watching because this was the I think this is the the takeaway that a lot of political and

0:31.4

theological conservatives are going to remember for years to come about

0:34.4

S. B. C. 2021. They're going to remember James Merritt, former S. B.C. President,

0:40.0

leader of the resolutions committee, on stage when they put forward a resolution I showed it on this

0:46.7

podcast that supposedly dealt with racism but did not include critical race theory as part of the discussion and someone

0:57.8

from the floor challenged it and said why don't we include language about critical race theory

1:01.7

and James Merritt went off on the guy.

1:05.0

And one of the things he said was the world is watching.

1:08.2

That was the justification.

1:09.5

That's why we can't put the term critical race theory in our actual resolution and speak out against it

1:18.4

because the world's watching. This is part of the logic that's I think wrecking the whole convention in a way they're really playing to the world and not not the Lord unfortunately and this is one of the things Tom Askel to his credit said it and he was the first one I heard and now many people are saying hold on the Lord is watching Russell Fuller said that so in honor of this logic that we need to do things a certain way because the world is watching,

1:50.0

I wanted to show you just a few things that have happened over the last few days.

1:53.4

I haven't been paying actually exceptionally close attention, but some things just get thrown into my lap and a few things have.

2:00.1

So we're going to watch some interviews. I don't think I've even watched either of them in their entirety. I've watched some of them, parts of them, but I thought I'm going to save this. We're going to talk about this because if the world is watching, why in the world are those who are so concerned about the world

2:16.1

watching acting the way they are? This is what doesn't make sense to me. If the world is watching,

2:20.1

I take that to mean we need to let our good works be a light before men so that they

2:26.3

can see them and glorify our Father in heaven. We want to be a good witness. We

2:31.6

don't certainly don't want to be a good witness, we don't certainly don't want to have unnecessary

2:36.0

conflicts spill out into the world. We want them to see us living in such a way

2:41.8

that it matches the way that Christ wants us to live.

2:46.4

This is though what we're getting. So let's see if the world watching has changed behavior any and if so how does it change that
