Hi, my name is Lockland.

I've picked this story, the woodpecker tree from the Martin and Sylvia Collection.

I love this story because it is a heartwarming tale that encourages curiosity and appreciation

for all the things in nature. I hope you enjoy it! The Woodpecker Tree

Martin and Sylvia live in a tall house with lots of windows.

From their second-story loft bedroom,

they can see their entire backyard with the horse fence to one side and the tall maple and oak trees to the other. Martin and Sylvia knew many of the trees in their yard and had names for them.

There was Old Man Oak, which was the tall tree that had their rope swing tied to it.

There were the birch sisters, which were a gathering of three thin birch trees near the brook that flowed along the

edge of their backyard. And there was the woodpecker tree, which was a tall, old maple tree

that was hard to see from their second-story loft bedroom, but you could always hear the woodpeckers drumming away.
